I have removed the radiator from my 73 and will be installing a new one in a couple of days.
Question; Will it be easier to install the radiator support first and then install the radiator? Or, will it be easier ot install the radiator support and the radiator as an assembly?
Thanks for any advice.
In my 75 it was light years easier to install radiator into support outside of car and then install it as an assembly. Seals were easier and better, damage was minimized, and shroud was sooooooo much easier to get both out and then back in as part of the assembly.
Hi Imr,
I find it easier to put the support in first and then the radiator.
I also cut 2 pieces of cardboard to size to cover the radiator core. I tape them in place to protect the core while I'm putting it in place.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I would also recommend some help. One guy can set the radiator and support in place, but it's sooooo much easier with 2. Also helps to have another set of eyes watching the corners.
Put the support in first.
Only put the lower side bolts in thru the wheel wells, not any others.
Tip the top of the support to the front of the car.
Makes a whole lot more room.
Next the shroud and lay it over the water pump.
Then the rad.
Then the rest of the bolts.
