Hey guys, sorry bug you all again but before I can install a luggage rack this weekend, I need to finish my recarpeting job that I've gotten about half way through. I ordered all new precut carpet and heat shielp from "corvette central" and am wondering if I need to do any trimming in order to make the sections fit properly. I noticed that original carpet that I have taken out is considerably smaller in sectionaly size than the new and don't know what I should do. Thanks, you all are lifesavers. Jonathon Holmes and no not the **** star lol.
Also, if you purchased a carpet kit from ACC, turn it over and make sure the jute is correctly placed and make sure it's not doubled-up in spots.
Also, if it were me, I'd completely remove the jute on the two sections that cover the rear wheel wells. It's too thick and you'll suffer wrinkle bubbles no matter how much adhesive and work you put into the job. The jute quiets the road noise so it may be a fraction louder but it will look better.
Lastly, this job takes 2x or 3x longer than you think so budget the time needed.
I am installing new carpet now myself and wish I had removed the JUTE padding on the wheel wells as suggested. It was a royal PITA to get those two pieces on and I am not happy with them. Unfortunately they're glued down now - not sure if it is worth pulling it out and scraping everything down again, especially have putting in reflectix. Since I have a soft top that is normally folded down back there I don't think it's worth the effort to try to reseat it.
Hope the front pieces are easier to install smoothly but I need to run amp and speaker wires before I get to that step.
I can not suggest strong enough for you to install some sound deadening material right now. I used DynaMat Xtreme, and I have NO RATTLES in my 69. It also made the interior ALOT cooler.
I put down dynamat extreme on all of the surfaces I could reach, front and back, then put down reflectix on top. I haven't taken the door panels off yet - does it make sense to put dynamat on the doors?
