The Dynomax jet coated are by far the best header value i have seen and I looked everywhere for a year....U will not be disappointed..Dont forget the A/C bracket if it is applicable
I'm running the Hooker competition(1 5/8") headers on my 71. These are more expensive than the Dynomax when comparing coated headers, but the quality is very good. The Hookers use much thicker tubing that will last a long time and thicker flanges for great sealing. After two years of running them with pretty much run of the mill gaskets and non/locking bolts, I have had no problems with leaking. As far as fit goes, no complaints here. I know the Dynomax headers are very popular here on the forum and I truly do not mean to offend anyone, but lets not forget the origin of Dynomax headers. If I'm not mistaken, these were originally Blackjack headers, which never had a great reputaion with most older hot rodders that I have ever talked to. The general consensus was that you get what you pay for and the Blackjack's were cheap. The thiner wall tubing had a tendency to rust through over a period of time and the thiner flanges never did seal quite right. With the ceramic coatings used on most headers today and the excellent selection of gaskets, this may no longer be a problem and I look forward to seeing how they hold up over the years.
I have3 a ting about header routing, due to rack and pinion conversion...
the typical C3 header apparently routs the front tube down at about 45* angle and way out from head, center is down and out, rear is way forward then down and out to collector....and they exit way out from head....
Second design choice I have is.....front cyl exits backward over 'top' of the center cyl...they exit closer down and out...the rear is not so much forward but is slightly, then out....
SO any ideas where these headers might be from....as MFGR???
the first set has Mr Gasket on them...the second set I bought used from a race car...and are larger diameter 1.62 vs 1.34 dia....
Can you get shorty type headers because I got chambered exhaust and will I need shorty or can I get dynomaxes becuase they look like long-tube headers?
The Dynomax Coated flow much better than is commonly known. The fit is great & an a/c bracket is not required on 77 up. Someone posted that they did some slight grinding on the 68-76 a/c bracket. These are the rec. ones & were Cyclone w/ thick flanges & pipes. Dynomax acquired Cyclone. Any premium gasket works fine.
Dynomax also acquired Blackjack  headers & these were the cheap about $100. ones. At one time the Summit web site even showed this.
Where do Hedman Hedders fit into all of this? I know I have little choice, but... would at least like to know where I'll stand.
Thanks in advance.

Really? I was looking at my 79 and the a/c bracket is mounted to the manifold. I would think I would maybe need an adapter for the longer bolt? I haven't given it much thought as I'm not ready for headers yet.
Well as for A/C. I still have it on my car and it works; I did not have to get an aftermarket bracket for the headers to fit. Plus I do have and auto Trans if that makes a difference.
