I always just use a bead of RTV type sealant.......never leaks. I used the intake gaskets once (years ago) and it soon leaked ......maybe others have had better luck with them.
maybe 10 years or ago I tried useing the seals and the pushed out when I tigntened the intake bolts down. I glued them down with yellow weather strip adhesive first then put the intake on. still in there and still leak free.. bubba got lucky? I didnt know then I could leave then out.
Do a dry fit with the port gaskets only. Visually check the front and rear mating surfaces. As long as the surfaces align (and they should!) silicone is your best choice. I had a problem on a 65 Olds 400 with an Edel Performer (rear mating surfaces did not align correctly) that required using the rubber end seals and silicone, but never on a Chevy.
