Default Hooker side mount headers

I have a 69 vette with a big block, it has Edelbrock performer RPM heads # 6055 stamped in the head, I think these are Rectangular port heads, I dont know how to tell the difference between oval and rect ports, is this just on the intake ports or what.
My question is, I want to buy a set of Hooker side mount headers with side exhaust for a big block to fit my heads.
Some one must have done this before!

They should be either #60559 or #605519 (polished) RPM 454-R rectangle intake port heads. The oval port versions all begin with #604...

Plan on hanging my Hooker sidemounts on a set myself, tho I got the bare ones so I could spec my own valves, springs, keepers... I may mock them up sometime soon just to make certain, but don't expect any issues since the exhaust ports are in the stock location. FWIW, they're going on a 427, several of which I've built for myself over the years.

Yes, to anyone who knows the exhaust ports could use a little help, I'm having them worked to improve flow a few % to take better advantage of the >.600" solid roller going in, after which the bang-for-the-buck factor will have made these heads the right call for my purposes. (Should you get tempted to play with them yourself, I advise leaving the floors alone.)

BUT, All of the Hooker side mount headers for a big block have OVAL ports,,, so will these still fit my rectangular 6055 heads

On big block heads, oval & rectangle refer to the intake ports.
Dont worry about the exhaust ports. The Hooker side exhaust headers have very large tubes and will cover most anything.

We'll be looking for an upcoming thread with your glowing about how sweet they look, sound (what inserts you going with?) and perform; followed shortly thereafter by one proclaiming your entry into the "Hooker tattoo" club.

Tom is correct, doesn't matter what the intake port is, rectangular, or round, exhaust ports are the same.

what you want to do is bolt a gasket to the header flange and match the bolt holes. Most of the time the holes will be off a fraction of an inch.

Sweet Thunder has a sound clip.

In comparison, word is the Hooker MaxFlows have a mellower, deeper tone.

The STS's sure sounded better than those packs, tho a little on the tinny side to my ear. Of course, the open pipes sounded awesome IMHO. Surely someone around here has a clip of a shark w/MaxFlows. A member posted some dyno runs with them last year, but the links are dead. No detrimental effect vs. open sidemounts, BTW.

Someone on another thread said that the STS mufflers are adjustable for the sound, how is this done.

you make them louder by drilling a hole in the end caps

STS baffles, plus the end caps on the STS baffles are only Chevy Freeze plugs so if you drill to many holes while tuning them just get a new $1.00 freeze plug from NAPA and start over. I ended up removing them completely and love them.
Just yesterday I was taking a ride and on the street an older gentlemen and his wife were walking by while I was idling at a light, I had my window up because it was cold so I could not hear what he was saying to me ,but he pointed to his ear a few times , and I said to myself " another old fart who does not like my side pipes " but instead he pointed to his ear again and gave me a thumbs up approval along with his wife!!
PS : I can say old fart because I am also 62 years old.
