This is a comment I got from a different forum about this motor:

It requires a different flywheel/flexplate than your 75 has ... bolt pattern & balance are different beginning 1986.

All 96up have electric fuel pump ... blocks' fuel pump boss is probably not completely machined ... you have to look. A local shop charges $75 to finish.

They also have an OE thin metric ringpak ... helps bore last long time; ensure your rebuild uses thin ringpak and NOT like what's in a C3. A pal just got a "new" 2008 Z71 pu ... & just sold his 96 Z71 pu w/ iron 350 vortec (vincode "R") ... he bought it new & maintains his stuff real well ... that 96 had about 150K and ran as well & quietly as new & no smoke & no oil use.

W/ roller lifters & vortec heads, a 96up "R" vortec motor is good choice as a core for rebuild.

-edit-you probably know its vortec heads require different intake manifold than your 75 ... also your shallow vette oil pan (~7") won't fit either. No waffling here, still a good choice to build for a 75.
