Default Cooler Intake Charge?

I want to make some changes to my fuel delivery system. I have the stk line attached to engine block going to 650 Demon on Air Gap. I wonder what I would gain if anything by using steel bradied hose and a heat shield w/insulator?
My next question is: How much of the benifit w/carb spacer is due to cooler temps or increased plenum?
If 10* reduction in temps = 1% more power, I should be able to bring temps down about 40*. I'm always looking to free up some power. Where am I wrong? TIA

***** Warning and disclaimer, I haven't actually used any of these*****

But, several options:

Fuel coolers:

http://www.shopatron.com/product/part_number=4136/694.0

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10291_-1_10267

http://www.dana.com/Automotive_Syste...trusionfc.aspx

Then use something like this :
http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/SPT9859.htm

to get cooler air from the front wheel wells if you remove the dust covers.
Combined with a heat shield under the carb, should make a difference

There was a fuel pump insulator kit. It had a big rubber spacer between the fuel pump and the block. It also had some rubber insulators for the bolts. looked good, but I couldn't find it for sale.
My next trip to the dyno, I will have some carb spacers to try. If they really work, I'll have to cut a hole in the hood?
I wonder what determines if a carb spacer will work or not? TIA

By thinking that you can reduce intake temps by 40 degrees.

Default Fair Enough

Mike: What would be a reasonable reduction in temps?

Most people over estimate what their intake temps are to convince themselves that there's huge amounts of power to be gained.

My guess is 5 degrees if you're lucky.

Default Wow!

Mike: I was thinking that underhood temps would be 180*-200*.
If the fuel was insulated from the block/ehhaust, 2" insulator/carb spacer w/hood scoop/ram air getting outside air, 5* seems very low.
I take it that you have done this? I know that theory gets shot in the azz by reality regularly. Is this such a case?

The problem with the spacer is separating out any increase from the temperature reduction from that of the increased plenum volume and decreased radius turn that the air/fuel mixture has to make. Both of these phenomona can increase hp.

I use a 1/2" aluminum open spacer for a little more top end, and while my dyno numbers are very good (for what it is), I've no idea of how much of this is due to the spacer.

BTW, I run a '67 hood on my '64 and also opened up the front scoop.

Toddalin: I agree 100%. I've noticed in some build ups that the smaller the intake, the more it seems to respond to a spacer?
If a 2" spacer added 20 hp, I would have to change the hood.
A 4" raised hood looks very businesslike!
The next time I go to the dyno, I will have some spacers to play with.
