Default unilie problem

ok, i am going nuts here, i changed the plug wires the other day, started the car everything was fine. After I let it run for a while i shut it off, and decided to see if the chrome distributor and coil cover would fit...it did not, I pushed on it a little bit to see where it was hitting, top of the coil, and then put it aside. Went to start the car again, now only 1 and 8 fire...i thought I might have cracked the cap, so I replaced the cap and rotor, still only 1 and 8 fire.
I am doing this solo, the way I know 1 and 8 are the cylinders firing, those are the only exhaust ports that are heating up the header.

Any thoughts, ideas would be welcome...

Have you checked to make sure that the plug wires are connected to the plugs in the right order?

my only other ideas would be to check the timing/dwell. If thats not it, then I have no idea. I'm sure there are others here who might have an idea.

Good Luck.

Have you removed the 1/8 wires and tried starting the engine?

Since your car is an LS-5 I'm going to assume you have braided plug wires. Check to make sure you have not shorted the plug wires to the coil by pushing down on the shield.

I am not running the the braided wires...I am going to try swapping plugs around, and see if that does it...

Check the plug that goes to the coil the one with 3 wires. Mine had the red wire loose and the car would run like crap i hit it by accident and the car died. Wah-la! Found dat problem!

Another thing check the connection to the ignition module. Again.....after a cap change my car ran like super crap! For the life of me could not figure it out (besides my bad wire routing mess) checked under the cap and the module wires were just barely touching it

and last but not least on my 5 day ignition system overhaiul! On the new cap you have to transfer that metal spaded piece that is in the center of the old cap coil wires. I made the mistake of not doing that as i never really thought i would have to or even noticed it for that matter.

Super last but not least-- that wire retainer only goes on one way. There are two slot in the rear for it to go over the coil cover.
