Default 71 Differential needs rebuild. Need instructions.

I need specs. and rebuild instructions to rebuild my 71 differential. Is there a manual or book I can purchase on the 1971 Vette Series 3 differential, or can someone tell me how. Can anyone help.

I would like to know as well. Also how much HP/torque can a 71 rear end handle? Is there a difference in the sm vs. Big blk vette rears like in the chevelles. You know 10 vs. 12 bolt?

The rear eand was the same on small and big block cars.

Only the half shaft connection to the rear end side yokes were different.

Small block used a U bolt and big blocks and LT-1's used a cap with bolts.

Search for differential rebuild by GTR1999. He's the master when it comes to rebuilding anything Corvette. He has a really good article detailing the process. I'm just not sure if it's on CorvetteForum, or DigitalCorvettes?

You'd be better off looking a DC or vettemod than here at CF.

Gary has nice write-ups with pictures and is very helpful but he isn't a supporting vendor here so CF would rather drive us to other sites for help.

All 10-bolts thru '79, but can be beefed up and even converted to accept 12-bolt carrier (), which can take upwards of 1000hp.

You can easily replace your differential...but rebuilding what you have is another story altogether. Rebuilding one correctly is probably the most technically difficult process of anything else you could do on a C3. You need lots of knowledge, experience and special tools to do it. Remove it and take it to a pro if you, want it rebuilt correctly. {just a recommendation...}

Thanks to all for your thoughts, papers and recommendations. I'm going to call Edward Sevadjian at Dontov Motors in Dallas since he's close to me, I'm in OKC, OK. Will also look at tracdogg2 and gtr1999. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but this may be over my limit so will seek the aid and assistance of pro's this first time. Thanks again to all, this was my first time to Thread on CF. Very nice experience. Skunk52

There is an incredible thread over on DC in the C3 section with detailed instructions and pics to overhaul and strengthen a stock unit. There is also an equally good one on the Tom's 12 bolt conversion. Looks like on a well built stocker its limit is around 600hp, on the Tom's 12 bolt close to double that. Its a pricey rebuild, about $3000 for the well built stock and almost double that for the 12 bolt. Ouch.
