I assume the switch is stuck. My hanes book doesn't give me a location for the switch. The car is a 69 390 horse 4 speed coupe. The original motor has been swapped for a small block, but I believe the tranny is original. I have only owned it for a couple months and am still learning about the car. Is there a better book or could someone help with the location? I don't have a lift and I don't want to put it back on jackstands unless I have too. Thanks in advance.
the switch is on the side of the tranny so get those jack stands out asumming of course that it has the muncie in it little round switch on drivers side green and black wires there should be a connecter somewhere just below the master cylinder you might beable to ck and see if has continuity when out of reverse could also be a mechanical prob with the small rod that connects to it
Hi M69,
There are 2 books that will be a lot more help to you than the Haynes publications.
The GM CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL and the AIM (ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTION MANUAL). The AIM was used on the production line and the SERVICE MANUAL was used at the Dealership. There are editions specifically for your 69.
Both books are sold by many vendors as well as the NCRS Store and are well worth the $$$.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for your earlier help. I have it up on stands and have looked at both sides of tranny and still can't locate the switch. The tranny may not be the Muncy. The numbers I found on the passenger side of tranny are...
Machined pad on top passenger side 18L623534
cast onto passenger side 1304065903
W.G.D.
F P C 2
5.15.78-1
The last one sounds like a casting date making the tranny non original.
If this is not the Muncy will it handle the 427 I have already purchased? Thanks in advance.
Should have a switch like this mounted on a bracket left side of trannie. This is a 71' Muncie. My "Corvette by the Numbers" book says the 1304065903 is the Maincase for a Borg Warner 4 speed. Does the side cover look like the one in the picture below?
Thanks Duke, I'll start hunting for something stronger. Maybe I'll start a new thread and get some input, you guys are a wealth of info and are much appreciated.
