I still can't figure out why the professional racers haven't caught onto the Q-Jet. The Q-Jet is a good carb no doubt but it's like some of you have said, it's for efficiency i.e. two small primaries used on everyday run of the mill small and big blocks for better gas mileage, not necessarily for performance but it does have some go when the huge secondaries cut in. Marketing hype, eh? I doubt that. A company can't can't last as long as Holley living off just marketing hype. They have a quality product and GM knew this. So, they went with a true performance carb on their high performance engine, a Holley, and couldn't care less if you got 8 mpg in those days. And why not use that in their sales pitch? It wasn't like they were lying. They actually did perform! Anyway, that's my $0.02.

Could care less what carb someone likes to run.
To Sensi i'm sure glad holley is no longer like it was during the muscle car days. The carbs you can get from holley today are so much better its not even a contest from the past. Unfortunantly they do sell some of the old style carbs at cheaper prices and thats what more people end up with based on cost they can afford.
Almost all racing is done by holley or there copies. No marketing involved to sell cars fuel injection has been on production cars for 38 yrs.
Facts are facts on virtually all race cars, drag, road race, oval track, some cases boats you see holleys or there copies. These people are not stupid by any means its not like they have not got the word on Q-jet lol.

Pro racers have to abide by class racing rules. The high-profile classes (NASCAR & others) mandate use of Holley carbs of a specific model and size. Also, you can't buy a new Q-Jet. You're not going to find a pro race team running a carb that is out of production and for which no spare parts are available - that would be stupid. We ran Q-Jets on our NHRA national record holding cars, as did many other teams, so the statement that pro racers haven't caught on is nonsense - Q-Jets were used extensively in pro competition. It's simply no longer practical for most people to run a Q-Jet in competition due to parts availability and the condition of used carbs.
If you have data showing that the Holley will outperform a Q-Jet on a street engine, please post it up: I've posted my actual test data, and will be glad to compare it to yours.
Also: Be aware that Oldguard 7 throws this question out on the Forum at regular intervals. He last asked exactly the same question back in March. He has no interest in the answer, but enjoys seeing the discussion that follows.
You guys can keep arguing the facts with your opinions. I'm off this post topic now and have engines & carbs to build. E-mail me if you need factual info.

Lars, as for your statement that I throw this question out at regular intervals and have no intrest in the answer (your opinion) is incorrect. I would hardly call 3 years a regular interval. If I were not interested, I would not have started the thread (a fact). I will also remind you at the time this thread was posted, you took your ball and went home in late 2008 because some disagreed with your opinion.
This is a forum.......facts and opinions are argued. If you continue to fail to understand that your facts and opinions are not the gospel, your ego will always get you into trouble.
johnt365: Thanks for reminding the forum that both threads are OLD (forgot I posted this question back in 2004 until I clicked on your link)
