Have black leather seats in my '71. Driver's side showing slightly worn. Tried to get a bottle of dye at a shoe repair place and the guy said not to use what he had- will rub off. Said contact a furniture repair place. Anybody try to touch up leather and what did you use? Thanks.
You use leather dye. What the shoe store had was probably leather polish...different stuff. Call a leather goods store or a furniture restoration/refinishing store. Or, just google 'leather dye'. If you have a small area to do, you might find a decent match and get away with any appearance difference. Otherwise, you might have to recolor the entire seat cover so that it looks uniform. Good luck.
That spray dye that the corvette catalogs sell works pretty good.I have used it several places on my interior.Works well on seats ,kick panels and trim pieces.Good luck!
Alot of the spray "dye" is actually a flexible paint type product that just goes on the top. I think you probabuly want the leather dye that actually penetrates the leather from a shoe store or leather store as mentioned above.
A company called Fiebing makes a black leather dye. If you use it you need to use a leather sealer/finisher over it like a product called Eco-flo. It will keep the finish from rubbing or wearing off. Both are available at Tandy leather stores. Check and see if there is a Tandy store in your town or a leather store that caters to leather hobbyists. I re-dyed a leather motorcycle jacket a few months ago and it came out looking like brand new again. Black is easy, be glad it is not a special color like buckskin you have to match exactly.
I have had pretty good luck using the spray cans of interior dye too. Just be sure you clean the leather first so there are no oils etc. on it.

It was a "dye" at the shoe repair place that he told me not to use. I'll give Fiebing a call. Thanks.
