Default AN fitting question

i am changing the rear braided line on my car over to 3/8" aluminum line and i need to buy some fittings for it. my original hard line already has a -6 AN fitting on it from when i originaly did this 5 years ago BUT its been a while and i cant for the life of me remember what i will need to use on my hard line that i have left over from then. what does the -6 and -8 and all those other numbers mean? i know i need a sleeve and nut fitting for my hard lines but it doesnt say what size tubing it is for.

I was just researching this the other day for fuel and water hoses:

-02AN equal to 1/8" hose
-03AN equal to 3/16" hose
-04AN equal to 1/4" hose
-05AN equal to 5/16" hose
-06AN equal to 3/8" hose
-08AN equal to 1/2" hose
-10AN equal to 5/8" hose
-12AN equal to 3/4" hose
-14AN equal to 7/8" hose
-16AN equal to 1" hose

Divide the AN fitting by 16 is another way to get tube size.

They are also referred to as JIC fittings. They all have a 37* flare connection and are interchangeable with AN fittings. I have aluminum AN fittings and stainless steel JIC fittings in my engine bay. There are alot of companies that make stainless JIC adapters that may not be made in AN aluminum form for your projects.
