Need help no spark

I need some help drove my car to a local show today and it ran great. Got ready to leave and it fired up then died. It turns over but has no spark. Not sure where to start or how to even begin trouble shooting it. Any help would greatly be appreciated electrical is deffinitly my weak point. Oh yeah its a 79 with a slightly built 350.

no spark

does your car still have HEI dist.?

Start with a test light or volt meter. See if you are getting 12 volts to the large red wire at the distributor when the key is on. If you are, it is likely the pick up module has failed.

yes it has hei and I do have 12 volts at the red wire I will buy a igniton module tomorrow and give it a shot

it could be the ignition module. (HEI Module)

Also check the wires to the plug on the driver side of the dizzy that none have come out of their holders. My car did the same thing. Ran fine started died. The wire (pink/red) on mine was loose over the years and had come out without my knowing and the car had nothing. Took a little luck to find that but thats what itwas.

Take the old ignition module with you. They can test it.

Disconnect the tach wire at the distributor and hook a test light to the connector on the distributor cap (the tach connector).

The light should flash brightly as you crank the engine. If so, the ignition coil is breaking properly.

I assume you have checked for spark at the plug wires first.
