I've got a 327 here which is a fresh rebuild. Have it on the stand and painted it all up and getting ready to drop it in. Decided to prime it up and check for leaks and to adjust the lifters (Hydraulic).
With an electric drill and using a regular primig tool it goes right up to 40+ pounds in no time and sits right there a little above 40. But even after a number of extended runs there is nothing comeing up to the top of the motor.
So the questions are, is 40lbs with a drill about right, is this enough that there should be oil coming up the pushrods and enough to pump up the lifters?
I've got no leaks and turned the engine over a few times by hand in between cranks.
It should come to the top of the motor but I have had it take 5+ minutes on some motors. I never stuck an oil pressure gauge in mine. I just hit the drill until I saw it comes out of all the pushrods.
You can try putting in a plug into the oil gallery in the back of the motor where the oil pressure sensor sits. I would throw some Marvel mystery oil in the cylinders also and rotate the crank so you can get oil into all of the crank journals when priming the motor. It shouldn't take a very long time to get the pressure up, once the oil pump is primed, houstonvett
