The brake light will not go out on my 75 vette. I thought it was the parking brake system, which I replaced, but I can push the parking brake switch all the way in by hand, and it will still not go out. I also rebuilt the rear calipers, and had to bleed the brakes, can this also be a problem. Last but not least I had the dash out to replace the tach board, lowered the steering column, could this also cause the problem.
Thanks Jim

Hey Yack,
Try looking at the proportioning valve, its on the frame under the booster.. It has a one wire connector and may be off!!! Other that that the valve may be shifted causing the light to stay on... Ill see if i can find where to reshift the proportioning valve... This happens from what i understand when you lose one side (or front to rear) of the hydraulic system... Seems like we would open the line to front or rear at the valve and push the pedal hard and recheck.. then repaet the other way if it didnt help... Of course it could be stuck...
You know, mine has been doing this since I swapped out some bulbs on my dash also.. It would occasionally stick on (the light), but its been on solid for a while. I can tell when the e-brake is off or on in the car so I know it is working, and I haven't done any brake work or had any brake problems so I have just been putting off messing with it...
If the e-brake switch is not sending a signal to the dash lamp, then half of your brake system is not functioning properly. That is the other purpose for that "BRAKE" warning lamp. As mentioned, check/reset the p-valve; or get the trapped air out of the system.
had the same trouble with my 78, found while working under dash I knocked the brake light switch loose from the brake pedal. Just had to snap it back in.
My 78 brake light is on as well. However, for a while I could pump the brake peddle a couple times while stopped and it would go out for a while. Now it stays on. I am searching for a resolution as well. May have to post that question myself.
Good luck to both of us.
Check all of your brake calipers for any leakage. When the "BRAKE" light stays on, it is usually due to a leaking caliper, air in part of the system, or a problem with the p-valve.
we just replaced the master cyclinder, added stainless steel braded lines and drained and bleed the system and my light went off......pretty sure it was the proportioning value was out of wack. If you are not getting equal pressure to front and back it trips the light.
