Alignment question
Spoke to the mechanic yesterday, he says "I set it up myself. I have to go by what the machine says. Its calabrated by snapon. I have to go by what the machine says" so I said thank you and hung up.
Went to MIDAS today, didn't speak to the mech, went straight to the manager with my report from yesterday. When he saw the numbers and figured out what had happened he started turning kinda red (thought he might stroke right there) and said something like "Hmmm Pauls off today, can you let us try again? I said yes and requested a before and after printouts(no problem). I feel like the results may be different this time.
I am going to report it to the head office for Midas. What a week!!
Happy motoring. :seeya
Then there's the other thing. Money for alignment at the other shop is outrageous. $120 for the rear $40 for the front. Midas was $80 total. I can still let Midas do the job for nothing, pay an additional $20 to the other shop for verification and still come out ahead. That is assuming they do it right the second time.
If I were in the managers shoes(which I am at my job), I would like another shot to make things right.
Yea I'm probably nuts.......
I took my car to Midas for a frontend alignment after my rebuild. When I put the front end together I did not put any alignment shims in, kinda figured on getting new ones. When I got my car back I checked to see how many shims it took to do the alignment.... It appears that the frontend is perfect. It required no shims to align the frontend.
Its this really possible. Its hard for me to believe. I've done a pretty good bit of business with them. I would hate to think that they just didn't do the alignment on the frontend at all.
Any thoughts????
I will never pay for another alignment job again without receiving and verifying the print out again. I've been ripped more than my fair share lately. I'd be embarrased to tell all in one post!
A few years back, Midas was running an alignment special. Just having put new tires on, I figured that a fresh alignment job would be good. My wife took it to them while I was at work.
They told her that the whole front end was basically shot. My wife called me from the Midas store, I told her to not let them touch it. The car, an '86 SS Monte Carlo, only had 55K miles on it.
A few days later I took the car into a Goodyear dealer for alignment. After they finished, I asked them what condition the front end seemed to be in. they said it was in excellent shape. I then told them about what had happened at Midas. They said "that" was a common story with Midas.
It's getting to the point to where I am going to darn near have to threaten shop owners PRIOR to having work done on my stuff. "DO IT RIGHT or else!!!" :smash:
I ask for a printout before and after. What I got was a printout of the front only. The car now pulls to the right. It now drives worse not better.
I'm very disappointed with them and will no longer do business there.
