ignition system shielding question
I need to buy plugs and wires for my small block. I do not have the shielding components for the distributor, etc. I see many pictures of Vettes operating without the shielding. Under the assumption that they still have operating radios, how do they get away with, or compensate with that? If it requires special ignition components then I need to know about it now so I can get the right ones.
Thanks!

The ignition sheilding was a joke. It never really worked well. The modern plug wires are so much better than what we used to have. Just get a set of good quality plug wires and your radio should be fine.

I like the looks of mine. You really have to look hard to find a spark plug wire. I left off the chrome covers over the plugs. Might add those later.

If you use new style spark plug wires do you still need the distributor shield? And what about the spark plug heat shields and the spark plug wire heat shields?
Regards,
Alan

I like the unique to Corvette dist. shielding & have the upper parts on.
Alan
You can run all, part or none. I tested it w/ all off using Moroso spiral core spark plug wires.

All that shielding was for AM radio - remember that? Plus, you really don't need the antenna either, FM will work fine with just a length of cable.

FM OK, but AM is useless once motor is running.

I like the looks of the shielding also
Running all except the spark plug covers, they won't fit around the headers

I like them too and will eventually get it. But $500 is a nasty hit now. I'll get the good wires and it looks like I will be ok. Thanks guys!!

Start off with the box and the plug sheilds. Then add the dog ears later.
