Default Clutch fork boot

I think the bellhousing I have is for a truck. It is steel. The boot opening is shaped differently and not a simple square like the correct one. It is a square but it goes around a corner about half way. if that doesn't explain it then i can get a picture.
Anyone know where I can get the right boot?

Here's a pic of the one you want. Don't think it was exclusive to corvette's. Probably Nova's, Chevelle's & Camaro's use the same bell housing.

You can get it from Zips, Paregon Restorations, Ecklers, Rich's corvette's, Volunteer Vette etc. Pretty common part.

Hi AW,
If the bell-housing is a truck item might your Chevrolet or GMC Dealer still stock the boot? I'd think they were the same for many years running.
Regards,
Alan

I'm looking for one also, but have not found anything in the local area.

I called a few of the GM Dealer Parts Counters and they came up empty. One of them suggested that I not to bother checking with other GM Dealers because he already tried that, and there were none to be found in the surrounding area inventory.

I'll just add it to my list to buy from a vendor.

Default bellhousing

Could your bellhousing be a after market scatter shield type?

I'm just curious but why not buy the correct bellhousing? It's supposed to be a 403 if I remember correctly, I'd need to go out to the garage to check.

I do know that I have the spare off my 68 parts car and another off a 69 Camaro that have the same part number,if you need the numbers let me know.

Yea, good point. I guess my thoughts are that if I keep the steel one steel it is much safer in case of a flywheel or clutch issue. But is that only on very high performance, high reving engines? Is so then I am definitely interested in getting the right aluminum one. I just don't want to compromise safety, especialy when my kid is in the co-pilots seat. What do you guys think?

BTW- I have a new boot coming. if it fits I will provide details.

Ok I got the boot and it fits just fine. Comes with a tube of Permatex RTV. Came from Summit Racing, Lakewood part# LAK-15510.
I just did a search for a 73 Chevy pick-up truck bellhousing and it came up.
But I would still like a response to my concerns over the aluminum scattershield as I may still go with that.

I didn't see that it was a steel bell housing you were using, if I had I wouldn't have said anything. I thought you found that you had a truck housing and were having trouble finding the boot.

Safety first isn't a bad thing and anything could happen even with a lower performance engine.

I really do need to start re-reading threads before posting.

I probably did say truck but that is misleading. More specifically it is for a pickup truck. But the boot is quite nice.
