i'm about to reinstall the locks and latches on a 72 after paint. any tips on the latch install? i'd hate to close the doors and not be able to open them-i'm too old to climb thru the window nascar style!
Before you put the latches in, figure out which lever on the latch you push with a screwdriver to release it. Since the inner door panel will be off while you're adjusting the handles, latch and striker you can easily release the latch if you need to.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
Here's a great picture posted by a former Forum member, of the latch installed showing the location of the lever that needs to be pushed. I've reached it without pulling the door panel by using a long screwdriver and a small flashlight to find it.
It's a picture well worth having around for that one time when the latch decides not to respond otherwise.
Don't forget the gasket on the outside door handle or you'll be kicking yourself in the azz after your done.
Be carefull when reinstalling the inside door handles. The metal on the slide part of the opening control is very weak and will crack off with little effort.
