I just got off the phone with Lars who asked me to make this short post for him.
His ISP at home is and has been down for several days, and he can't get on the Forum at work, so he is somewhat out of touch at present.
In addition, he was T-boned in an intersection this morning by a geeze. He is ok, but his elderly C4 got bent pretty good. And, he is pretty bent also..... :mad :mad :mad

Thanks for the notes and concerns I have received from everyone - I do appreciate it!
My server is back up (nobody knows for how long...), so I was just able to pick up my e-mails for the first time since last Saturday. If anyone has written to me and I have not responded, please re-send, and I'll make sure I respond to your questions and requests.
My Vette got hit pretty hard.... T-Boned right at the rear edge of the door in front of the rear wheel. The impact threw the car out of the intersection, over a curb (without touching the curb), and into a parking lot. Pretty wild ride. It was perfectly drivable after the accident, so I drove it to work and back home again tonight. I have now cut it apart to reveal the underlaying Unibody frame/cage, and I've shot the car in on our laser frame rack. There is no damage at all to the steel substructure, and the car is perfectly straight. Absolutely freakin' amazing. All I have is a bunch of 'glass panel damage to the door skin, door jam, and forward quarter - all perfectly fixable. I can't believe it.... So I start bonding panels tomorrow night after doing a little more fracture stress relief with a die grinder tonight.... gawd, this stuff itches..!!

I am glad you are OK. Don't you just hate it when people who don't understand fibreglass say how they wouln't want to be in an accident in a Corvette.. I get that all of the time. In reality you are actually lucky you were in a Corvette...... :cheers: :cheers: :chevy

Maybe this will help the itch.
Some tips I learned from a fiberglass worker (made tubs etc)I used to know.
When working with fg;
1 Cover as much as you can but not enough to break into a sweat.
2 Try everything you can not to sweat. (Opens the pores and lets glass
particles in)
3 When washing afterwards, rinse liberaly with COLD water first. Hot
water creates the same condition as in #2.
I have tried this when using fiberglass house insulation and it seems to help a bunch. Maybe its just in my mind (can't spell cyclelogical). :nono:

So are you going to repaint it the original color, or change it?

You know what? This might be a GREAT idea for a clinic on fiberglass repair. If you want to. I'd show up. We could have breakfast beers and maybe help you if you want.

Does anyone else think it's possible that Corvettes absorb impacts so well because the fiberglass creates a longer impact time. Same amount of force applied over longer time = less boom boom. Basic high school physics.
Of course there are always the awful exceptions, but it seems like Corvettes tend to survive (with lots of body damage)

You are absolutely correct. Fibreglass absorbs the energy better than steel. A bonus is that the impact localizes and does not transfer the damage into adjacent body panels. I have seen Corvettes destroyed in the front and very little damage beyond the windshield. The driver walked away with minor bumps ! Let's not forget that Corvettes have full frames too! :chevy
