What is the can below the vacuum reservoir that has a vac hose going to it, and another rubber hose to a steel line that runs along the frame rail on the drivers side?
Is this a fuel vent? Where does the vac lline connect to, and is it necessary? The can has a crack in it, and it looks like its filled with an old dirty filter material.
It is the fuel tank overflow container. The vac. line pulls any fuel / vapors into the engine. The bottom will twist off and it has a thin filter that you can replace. New ones available from Corvette parts vendors.
Thanks for the qiueck responses. Where does the vac line connect to in order to draw out the fumes? Will this impact engine performance if it's old, or just an EPA thing?
Small hose on canister towards rear goes to carb. Larger center hose on canister goes to a tee at the PVC valve. Front hose on canister goes to tank...I believe.
You should check your AIM manual.
Doc Rebild sells these hoses
Hi Kelly,
Here's a couple of pictures of the fuel separator mounted on a 71 tank. The line runs along the driver's side frame rail to a rubber hose at the vapor canister you're seeing. Some times when this line isn't hooked up folks notice a gas smell in the garage.
Regards,
Alan
