I am trying to remove the front clip from an 81 vette. I'm just looking for some advice on the easiest way to do it. Should i take the body off the frame for to make things easier? Where are the braces attache to the clip?
Hmmm....my front clip is completely loose except for where it attaches to the firewall, etc. Doing just exactly what's shown would allow me to seperate the front cllip. I needs to go, since it's mostly a putty and slop, slap fiberglass patch/resin repair job. I was thinking about paying someone to do it.
Used a big screwdriver to make a slot in the bonding matrerial down low on the fender, inserted the little air saw & took a few minutes per side...the little air saw is available at Harbor Freight for $20 or so...has little 3" blades...1 blade did everything on both sides.
weren't you afraid of cutting into the fiberglass?
I was at first...but after my bodyman showed me what to look for in my cut and as I became comfortable with the saw (& closely watched my cut line), it became easy....when the clip was off, though, the first thing I checked for was whether or not I had bonding material on the clip or fiberglass on the tub....all was good - I stayed in the bonding material line!
