Are the Front Grille's completely chrome, or part chrome and painted black or ???? ... I am now reassembling a 1972 Corvette (E-Bay special) and I have one side that is "ALL" Chrome and one side that is Chrome & the inserts painted Black...
The closest paint color to the original gray on the 'eggcrate' areas is a semi-gloss 'cast iron' paint. You can usually find some in the auto parts stores paint section. As mentioned, the easiest way to paint them is to strip all old paint (paint stripper is the easiest way), Spray a good 'bare metal' primer, then wait 20-30 minutes and peel paint off leading edges to reveal chrome. Allow proper cure time on primer. Spray cast iron color paint, then wair 20-30 minutes and do the paint peeling 'thing' again. You can save time by not using primer...but then you have to do it all again next year! P.S. You have to be very careful not to damage the soft paint when you peel paint off the chrome edges.
