I'm going to be replacing the POS starter on my 69 and have been doing some research here on the site, and at the various starter reseller sites.
Local Advance has Powermaster #9200 for $100.00 (with 3 lug solenoid).
Powermaster website has this:
Tech Tip:
Solenoids With or Without R-Terminal
Before the introduction of electronic ignition, 12V vehicles required a R-terminal that bypassed the ignition resistor for easier starting. Modern electrical ignitions do not use a ballast resistor, and therefore do not require this terminal. When updating from an earlier starter to a racing starter without the R-terminal, simply do not connect this wire.
But, I've read several posts stating that this is not correct...
So I'm thinking that it may be easier/safer to simply change the solenoid to a 4 lug switch (additional part #601).
Do you have a HEI setup or the old original setup? On my HEI all I had to do was hook the battery/alt lug and the ignition solenoid lug and it worked great.
Btw I got my starter from White Performance on ebay for $90, it works great and I would never go back!
I just purchased a white performance 3hp mini starter. I only issue I have now is which lug do I put the positive battery cable. There is no lug for the small purple wire and there is a spade terminal on the solenoid.

the spade connector is for your start "Purple" wire.
just crimp a spade type lug on to the purple wire.

Be that the case I will have to clip off the eye on the purple wire and crimp a female connector to utilize it. It would be easier to push the connector on than trying to tighten the very small nut like on the OEM starter.
