Default Fixed Headlights?

Thinking about replacing the heavy OE vacuum operated headlights with fixed square headlights from Ecklers and others.
Is the weight savings worth the expense?

Hi FH,
When I see an otherwise stock looking car with fixed headlights I always think it was hit in the front and the owner didn't bother to repair them.
Now a road race car like Stan (Road Race Vette) builds is a whole different story!
Regards,
Alan

i cant see the weight savings being that much at all. I'm like others, when i see a vette with "fixed" headlights, i think "dang, too bad some tight wad didn't spend a few bucks and fix it right".

from the best i can tell, the only people that run fixed lights, as an advantage, are people racing at night. i have read that with the lights in the upright position they do create a decent amount of resistance.

just my two cents worth.

that being said, i am all for anyone doing whatever they want to their cars. if you like the look, go for it.

but, in an attempt to answer your question, i don't think there is any significant weight advantage.

I converted mine to electric window motors and screw mechanisms a little lighter and more reliable but also a little slow.

I've read somewhere that each headlight assembly weighs about 30 lbs. The fiberglass replacement can't be more than 5 lbs each. So, the math is about 50 lbs savings.
