Heat is your friend on stuck pipes.

A muffler shop wouldn't charge too much to just loosen them would it?
Maybe try driving it till it warms up, then use oven mitts to pull off the mufflers.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a BernzOmatic torch and heat up the area where it was clamped.

clamps make a indent, air chisel, or cut carefully with a dremel tool.
This will open up the pipe, off she comes!

+1

Was dropping the exhaust this past weekend on my 79, couldn't get the pipes separated, went to lowes and bought a $90 sawzall, pipes were off in less time than it took me to unpack the saw.

Of course if you're planning on putting that system back on, that may not be the best idea.
Are the pipes really worth saving??

It was ridiculously easy though! Where were sawzalls 20 years ago??

Sawzall dude. Unbolt them at the manifold and then drop the hangers and cut about a foot behind the crossmember, they'll come right out in two pieces each side.

Get a sawzall that lets you mount the blade with the teeth pointing UP, this makes it easy to do the cut, just slow down when you get close to cutting through as you will be close to your floorpans

I got a Dewalt for 90 bucks and wish I had bought one 10 years ago!

Milwaukee, 30 years ago, got stolen, went to a variable speed model....25 years ago, some daze you just need IT and nothing else will quite do...
