Default engine miss

Well im out of ideas. My stock 76 has an engine miss at constant speeds. When i give it some gas to speed up, it acts like i let off a little and get back on it. I have new plugs, wires, hei ignition module, rebuilt carb. Beginning to think something mechanical like wiped out cam lobe? anyone have an idea before i put it in the shop? Timing appears to be ok also.

thanks

That could be two separate issues. When you step on it to speed up and it actually slows, could be an inadequate accelerator pump shot.
A miss at constant speeds, check the valve springs and do a leak down test, or even just a compression test. Run the motor with a vacuum gage tapped to the manifold vacuum and observe the readings driving down the road (I have duct taped a vacuum gage to the windshield a few times).
Simple tests like these can help alot with diagnosis of a problem.

True. Hook a vacuum gauge up and see whats happening. This site will give you differnet scenarios of problems found with a vacuum gauge.
