Has anyone tried this stuff, and if so, what is your opinion?

I haven't used it, but there's been a number of similar products on the market like Redline Water Wetter and 40 Below. I'm guessing it's Royal Purple's own entry into that market.

Water Wetter is supposed to work better added to straight water...the Royal Purple product seems to be the same if the chart is accurate.

Best guess...probably not a lot of real difference between them so take your pick.

Unnecessary if your cooling system is in good shape. If it's not, it wouldn't hurt to try it and see if there's any improvement...before you tear into it and replace parts.

Notice in the ad the 'normal' running temp for this 350 SBC with a 160F stat is 228 degrees! That's not normal in my book! So, I guess if you have a 'problem' engine, it might help.

I tried 40* Below, its a joke! .. If you have any over-heating problems, fix them the right way.

I have driven cars for over 45 years from -45*F to +100*F. The Prestone green stuff works.

Just go into the laundry room and sneak yourself a couple of tablespoons of your wifes Downy fabric softener. Add this to your Antifreeze/water mixture and it will do the same thing as water wetter, 40 below and others. It reduces the surface tension of the water and allows the water to flow inside the radiator tubes with fewer air bubbles in the mix. I used it and noticed a 15-20 degree drop in my stockcar.

Ok this may be a stupid question but here it goes. I have an aluminum headed BB with dewitt rad and twin puller fans. Edelbrock HV water pump and am running straight water. I stay between 190 and 220. Would adding anti freeze to thne mix make it run cooler?

It would eliminate any boiling around hot spots (around the exhaust valves, etc) so pressure stays under control and your coolant can absorb as much heat as possible before being pumped out.

Use the green stuff (or the pink permenant stuff) and save the rest of your money. I think "water wetter" type products are just snake oil.

Why would you want it cooler? You'll only increase the wear on the engine.

My wife's Jaguar XJ6 to S.B. TPI had marginal cooling. I put in Water Wetter and distilled waterand have not experienced cooling issues in several years.

Water alone will transfer heat better than a water/antifreeze mixture. However, the boiling point of a water/antifreeze mixture is higher than just water. If your goal is to remove as much heat as possible from your engine, use straight water. If your concern is preventing your radiator from boiling over (or freezing!) use antifreeze and water mixture.

Thanks,

I had a 77 with a/c it had a slight cooling issue with a/c on temps above 90*F. I added the water wetter and problem solved. I say it works.

If you just use straight water the alum and block will start to corrode immediately and that coating will soon negate any benefit of using straight water. At least put some kind of additive in the system to prevent this.

Prestone makes a can (about 12 oz) of a "lube" and "anti-corrosive" for water pump seals and rads when you're not running anti-freeze. I use straight water with this in my racecar (since they don't want you to use anti-freeze at the track) and have never had a problem.
