My 73 Vette has the 76-82 style rims on it. I tried polishing them today with some Meguiars polish I bought at Advance Auto Parts. The polish was pink and thick. It seemed to dull the rims. I hope I didn't ruin them. What might work better? Any suggestions?
If they are alum. purchase some "mothers" you can buy at Advance Auto Parts. The more you rub the better they will look! Product comes in a small 2" round jar.
Some of these wheels have a clear coat on them... if yours do, you may have just dulled the clear coat. If you remove the clear coat, they should polish up nicely with most any good chrome polish and a bit of elbow grease...
These were done with Simichrome. Polished only with no coating added.

If you think Mothers does a good job on aluminum, you should try "Speedy" all metal polish.. It works far better than Mothers and with much less effort.. I was using Mothers too but then a friend stopped by with Speedy and I was blown away at how well it worked on a set of non coated aluminum wheels...
maybe I have unrealistic expectations of how shiny aluminum rims should be, but I bought the Mothers and it worked a little better, but still not as shiny as I would have hoped

Try Blingmaster and you will never go back to Mothers again. I have not ordered Mothers Aluminum polish in over a year as Blingmaster has just destroyed its sales in my area.
I was a believer in Mothers, then I tried Flitz. Flitz was great but a PITA to remove the haze it leaves behind. Blingmaster is easy to use and achieves a higher shine. Ask around on the forum, Blingmaster works.

If what you're talking about is Meguiars Hot Rims, I've had EXCELLENT results with it. You have to put a little "elbow grease", but the rims turm out like chrome!!
I'm not sure, the bottle doesnt say who the manufacturer is. It does say "made in the USA".. Just google "Speedy all purpose metal polish" (its a white bottle).
I'm in the middle of doing some Centerline Convo wheels if you want to see a before and after picture? The almost finished wheel looks like chrome.
