Default 10% Ethanol

I have noticed almost all gas stations around me have gone to this mix... and my car HATES it with a passion. Anyone else notice this? Anyone elses' car act up on this fuel? What are your plans when all stations finally go to using the Ethanol additive?

Different areas of the country have done this to comply with EPA edicts. Probably the whole country will eventually follow suit.

Yes...your car runs worse and gets worse fuel economy...contrary to what the EPA and environmentalists will tell you. They say your car runs cleaner and it saves fuel in the refining process. I say if it gets worse gas mileage and takes more of ethanol blend fuel to get you x number of miles, what does it save?

Once all areas go to it, we really don't have much of a choice. You could run racing fuels if you can get it and afford it.

Your government at work on your behalf. Yeah...right.

Its not just a slight drop in mileage that bothers me.. its the horrible performance. I get all sorts of motor noise, it runs a bit rough, it just.. well... Honestly it feels about the same as jerking a spark plug wire off and driving it. Its really, really bad.

There is a group of boat owners seeking class action status in Florida against ethanol gasoline. There has been a huge spike in boat repairs from leaking fuel tanks and lines to other issues all supposedly related to ethanol. We now have Marinas specializing in non-ethanol gas. Call your local boat places and ask them for non-ethanol gas is the only solution that i know of.

Are you sure it's the gasoline? I'm in Connecticut and we have 10% ethanol and it doesnt cause the symptoms you are describing, noises rough running etc.

It could very well be the gasoline blend causing the problem...it will take some carburetor adjustments to get it to smooth out the idle. The ethanol blend will have somewhat differing combustion characteristics and would need some air/fuel mixture adjusting...that only makes common sense.

While the ethanol blend may run cleaner than gasoline (so the EPA says) per unit of volume, when you have to use more of it to drive that mile compared to straight gasoline, what are you saving in the end?

Another government boondoggle. If we get the government we deserve, that doesn't say much about us as a nation.

Yes, absolutely sure. The difference between filling up at one of the few stations that claim a non ethanol mix and filling up at one that has the ethanol blend is night and day. I have learned my lesson.

You could vote for me. My platform is to take government out of everything else, except regulating trade between us and the common defense. Now go out and vote. Oh, but thats too radical.

Florida has very high ground water, it can and has FIRST HAND knowledge, floated in ground swimming pools outta the ground, what you think that crap does to gas station storage tanks underground??? especially with ethanol that absorbs water???

first hand knowledge....I pumped about a gallon of milky coffee outta the tank bottom about a year ago.....when I finally found that and cleaned it up, the vette ran SO much better....

other cars are affected to whatever the driver notices, or cares...

ethanol is a mess.....the higher percentage, the worse the performance/MPG.....

for every point of ethanol, expect that same loss in MPG....

we have several vehicles to compare, and it's across the board true.....

screw the weenies, they RONG yet again....not seen one damn thing they right on YET.....50 years....

I also don't like ethanol in my gas.

So ... why most folks think only 10% EtOH now? ... a dang sticker? Or in near future? My green azz!

As said ... ejamacate yerselves.

New president appointed new USDA Ag Sec Tom Vilsack ... former governor of corn state IOWA ... I saw-heard his interview and EtOH position on RFDTV ... study up!

There is a company that makes ethanol conversion kits for Holley carbs. The kit is $200.00+. I saw this on horsepower tv several weeks ago. The gas they had was E-85 (85% ethanol for those who are unaware, not trying in insult anyone's intelligence) There are quite a few stations in my area with the 10% ethanol mix.

You have to start much earlier in the process than the presidential elections. You have to support the candidate who shares your position and get him/her elected to the party platform. Same for senators and representatives and judges (after all, there will likely be lawsuits over ethanol).

We should probably all contact SEMA also although they may have a conflict of interest if they have member companies who stand to make money from selling conversion kits.

Yea,

Let's forget about clean air, national security and supporting our own economy because a car you drive about 500 miles a year runs rough on 10% ethanol. Adjust your mixture screws. There's no reason it shouldn't run just as well on a 10% mix.

Most people have no problem with it. I don't. I hope they keep ramping up the percentage.

I remember back when the earth was going to blow up when they started phasing out lead in gas. Hey, we're still here and all i see are happy campers.

Most people have no problem with it. I don't. I hope they keep ramping up the percentage. I don't have a problem with how much they might make, but it annoys the hell out of me that I am forced to subsidize that activity. If it was all private capital, I wouldn't care. But it's a money losing deal without the subsidies.

Ethanol is a money losing boondoggle for us taxpayers. National security would be better served by more exploration and drilling.

Put the lead back IN gas, stick lead tolerant O2 sensors on the cars, cut out the cat *** trophic converters.....pick up some 10% in fuel economy as a MIN figger, cut that 10% more crude/gallon of gas refined we use extra for UNleaded, and we got something near 20% DECREASE in crude oil consumption.... THAT comes off our import tab.....so from 60% imported oil, it's now only 40%....

AND guess what?? it makes NO diff to the air quality.....

It killed the Q-jet in my '75.
Got a BG Demon to replace it. New carbs have the internals to stand up to the effects of the ethanol. Still going to use fuel additives to combat that junk.
Going to get the Q-jet rebuilt and box it with the rest of the stock parts.
Good luck.
