Help ... break lights ...
its my first time to send a message on this forum
so i am just a newbee as you can say.
Let's introduce myselfe..
I am Joffrey and live in The Netherlands (Europe) next to Germany
and from a youg age crasy about the awsome Chevy vette
and own one myselfe.
its a 1980 C3 L-48 Corvette.
so i hope to have a great time whit you all and be helpfull to you eswell.
Whel lets head back to the subject,
My question..
I am working on the tail lights of my corvette,
i do not like the way the factory lights work
so i decided to get some LED tail lights..
but thare's another problem haha the lights i find on the net
whit LED arn't just the way i want it so i take the big stap
and took the idee to make them my own,
i am quit far allong the road of this project but run into a wall
i just cant get over whitout some help.
it's just the point that i want to separate the breake light from the normal light. but the problem in my point of view is just that bouth signals run tru the same wire... i want to separate these but where can i find the point they get fused together.
can someone tell me where to look up the wirestring?
i hope to get to a finish whit any of your help
and will let you see the finisht product in time.
greetings from The Netherlands
Joffrey Ofman.
Welcome to the forum.
I can help you in this but I need for you to give me a little more information on what you are trying to do.
I understand that you are converting to LED's.
And I know that the factory lights were set up so the outer taillights are for turn signal, brake and running/driving lights. The inner taillights are for reverse or back-up lights.
Question 1. I need for you to describe to me your thoughts on how you want the lights to operate. for example: do you want the outer lights to just be brake lights only? and have NO TURN SIGNAL capability? Or running/driving light working?
Are you dividing the outer lights into two parts so the top half does one operation and the bottom half another? I know in Europe, many areas require that the taillights have BOTH brake lights and amber turn signal lights, within the same light assembly. OR that the brake lights and turn signals are seperate from each other and have there own lenses.
Let me know what you are thinking and I will be glad to help.

If you want the brake lights to be separate from the turn signals you will have to run 2 extra wires one for right signal and one for left signal.
edit- you might be able to run only a brake light wire---my brain is getting stuck in the hazard switch---must be time to eat

the thing i want to make are 4 tail lights like the original
only the way thay operate i disslike.
i try to make the tail light out of two rings like you see on the original lens only the outer ring will be made by two strings of red led's that just fit the outer ring of the lens for drive light,
thats for all 4 lights, the brake lights i will make in the sollid mid ring
of the two outer tail lights. than the white sollid rings of the inner tail lights will be filled whit white led's for the reverse or back-up lights.
i just run trough the wiring diagram of the 1980 corvette and just couldn't find the problem cause i tought the turn signal on the yellow and dark green wire was only turn and the driving lights and brake were the brouwn wire's.
so if the turn signal and brake lights ar on the same wire.. that clears allot. so i don't have to cut into the original wire's

Greetings and allot of thanx for your replay's!!!

It's very interesting to hear about what you're woking on in the Netherlands. Your pictures look GREAT.
Do you know about the Dutch Chapter of the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society)? If you don't, you should check out their website. They're a very active as a group and I'm sure they would welcome you!

Alan
PS: My grandparents and my wife's grandparents were all born in the Netherlands. We're very proud of our heritage.

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!
Usually I see customized / modified partsd that look like they need to be thrown away...but in this case...I am IMPRESSED. Which is saying alot from me, because it takes quite a bit more than above average to impress me.. VERY, VERY, NICE JOB.

but i just bought the components and fabricated myself.
(Red led's)
(White led's)
(wires)
(polystyrene mirror plate)
it all cost me about some (170 euro) 231 dollar
i can sent some more pics if you like?
Greetings Joffrey.
it wass pritty easy to do, you only have to carefully open
up the original lights, i used a fine cutting tool to do so.
hope it's usefull for you all.
greetings Joffrey.
