I don't know what the '76 exhaust and cross members are like, but if they are anything like my '80 you probably cannot use full length headers. If a '76 routes exhaust from both sides of the engine to the passenger side back and then to both sides at exit, then you can't (or shouldn't) bend the pipes enough from the end of full length headers to get the left side to the right. Here's a pic showing full length headers and pipes from my previous dual system:
You could use shorty headers, but I don't recommend block hugger headers. Use headers that sweep back from engine cross center. My first headers came straight down from mid engine. They melted the poly out of my motor mounts and I couldn't get at some of the spark plugs without removing the headers.
Patriot makes a "Tri-5" mid-length header for a '76 that might work well. I highly recommend you spend the extra $106 for the ceramic coated version.
I have hooker comps on my 76, they are long tube headers and I didn't have any issues. The crossmember kind sucks cause you have to run the exhaust threw it, Im soon going to fab a tubular crossmember to fix that.
Dynomax Ceramic Coated on a 73 and have a 76 apart now. The same headers will fit the 76, but suggest you get the dual exhaust hanger that mounts to the rear transmission mount from a earlier C3 like is on the 73. I got one to use for the 76. You can also add chambered exhaust system and get rid of the mufflers at the rear. All this is not legal if you have an inspection requirement in your location.
