I have a 4-row core aluminum radiator (not from CA) in my '80 with a GMPP 350 HO crate and electric-only fan. My temp gauge rarely goes above 200.

at 260 your engine is going to blow up . i think you have other issues as well as radiator problems. make sure you are in fact running 260 by crosschecking with another gauge and if you are that high then buy yourself a dewitts or the 4 core copper/brass radiator. i can only say i prefer copper/brass radiators because they last longer then alloy radiators , can be easily brazed if a repair is required and dont suffer as bad from electrolysis.

If your radiator is 30 years old, maybe the core is heavily clogged. So perhaps with just a brand new GM radiator your problem will be solved... I replaced mine 8 years ago with the same ( but new ! ) part, and it made a huge difference !
... Assuming your engine is stock...
Just my 2 cents

Check temp. gauge & lower rad. hose for collapsing. Rad. shops can rod out the rad.

Here's my DeWitt's aluminum radiator with dual electric fans in my 79 L82. Runs 180 degrees. No problem with electroysis if the radiator is grounded. Aluminum seems to transfer the heat better

Well I just finished putting in a 4 core radiator. Now it looks like I might have to change the thermostat back to a 180 so I can get my temp back in the correct running range. I am very pleased to have this problem. FINALLY! Thanks for the input.

Grounding the aluminum radiator is enough to stop electrolosys? I thought I read you may need a sacrificial node? anode or cathode, not sure which though.

I went with a 4 core brass/copper from a local radiator shop. The 3 core they had for $250 was wrong so I got the 4 core for the same price. What a deal.
