I just built a new small block for my 77. I transfered my power steering pump from my old engine to my new one and the pullys don't line up. The pump needs to be shimed out about a quarter of a inch. If I do that the alt belt rubs the pump. Do I have the wrong pump or pump pulley? The crank and water pump pulleys are dead on. Also I'm not going to run the ac for now. Will one belt run the water pump?
I'm using a corvette water pump. The water pump pulley and the crank pulley line up perfect. The alt and air comp also line up. Just not the power steering pump.
I know I'm using a corvette water pump. The pulley has the larger hole for the shaft and fits snug. All other pulleys line up but the power steering pump. I may not have the correct c3 pulleys but why is everything else good?

Is the new build based on a genuine GM block? Which block? ... ie 350 or 400?
I have the exact same issue. Best guess on my part is I switched to solid motor mounts that may have a thicker plate to the engine which throws the alignment of the mounting bracket off. Did some shimming with washers to get it aligned

Anything is possible, but
The pulley is pressed on the ps pump. With a puller you can adjust the position of the pulley to line it up properly with the proper ps pump mounting brackets.
The clearance is tight and some pumps even came with a belt guide.
Using the shortest alternator belt will also move the alternator belt out of the way as long as you aren't using tall valve covers.
There is no problem with running one belt, but it would be a good idea to keep a spare and a couple wrenches in with the jack just for fun.
Thank's for the replies. I tried a shorter alt belt but with the tall valve covers I have to take off the alt to change the belt. I guess I can do that and shim the pump a little. Maybe pull the pulley out a little bit. A lot of work. I might go to salvage yard and look at different pulleys.
