Just when I'm about done fixing everything............
The gas guage has started acting up. When I fill the tank, the guage seems to sit at about 1/4 full. When I get to 1/2 to 3/4 tank, the guage seems to read accurately down to empty. Sound like the sending unit in the tank or the guage? What to check? Thanks.
From your other post, I'll assume this is a 1971. I think first I would test the output of the sending unit when it is stuck on ¼ tank. This will tell you if the problem is the sending unit or if it is somewhere else.
It is quite possible the potentiometer in the tank sender is acting up and highly probable.
The only other thing that would cause a gauge to read around ¼ when full is the resistor on the back of the gauge. If this were the case the ¼ reading would be the highest reading the gauge would put out and it would read lower as the tank level descended.
You could have a lose or corroded wire at the tank causing resistance in the wire from time to time, but I think you might be in need of a sending unit or repair.

Sorry, yeah it is a '71. I can check for corrosion at the connections, but can you tell me how to test the output of the sending unit? Thanks.
The sending unit has a break in the rheostat at the 1/4 tank mark. It just reads that value until the tank level goes lower. Your problem is the sending unit.
