Default LS1 Fuel system

I'll be starting my LS1 swap when I return from Carlisle and the last thing I need to sort out and buy parts for is the fuel system. I'd like to use an in tank pump, and while I'm running a carb on the LS1 I'd like to have a pump that could support FI if I choose to add it later. Is there something out there that will work?

I was curious if a pickup for an 82 CFI would work with an upgraded fuel pump, but this idea is based on nothing more than a hunch. Finally what about fuel line size and a recomendation on a regulator? The motor should generate about 425 horsepower. Thanks in advance.

Try sending a PM to Holley505. He's the only guy I can think of offhand that is running a LS1 with a carb.

If you are running a carb, you don't need much of a pump - if running EFI you will need a lot of pump.

You can get an external mount cheap and quick for carb fuel pressure requirements.

I'm doing an LS on steriods swap in my 69 and have ordered a TRE pump (in tank style like a C4). I will be working on mounting it in the tank. I'll be getting into that in the next couple of weeks - pump is on the way.

Based on the same idea, you could get an intake pump that would fit any late 80s S10 with THROTTLE BODY - or any late GM with THROTTLE BODY. These pumps put out around 11 PSI and look exactly like the ones that put out 60 - and fit in the same spot. You will then get a simple regulator and cut it down to around 4 or 5 for your carb...and life is good.

Why do you want to run a carb on a LS1 motor. I ran carbs for years and now that I have fuel injection I would not want to go backwards to a carb. The LS1 has so many aftermarket parts for it now keeping the FI is a breeze.

Thanks all. I'm running a carb because I bought the motor as a long block so don't have the harness, intake, tb, injectors, etc, etc, etc. All I need is the intake and controller to get up and going now and I'll likely go to FI as I gather the parts over time. Besides the motor, trans, and diff swap is enough of a fall project without needing to learn FI quite yet.

I run an external inline pump with mine. Walbro GSL392. I run it from the stock outlet of the tank through a regulator and a single line down the length of the car up to the fuel rail.

IMHO the cost to go ahead and do it right the first time (FI) is not much more than the intake and controller. Plus it will require hood mods and paint that the FI version won't.
