74 350/400-New starter-new battery-all electrical connections tight. Problem-Always starts perfectly when engine cool/cold. Take a short summer (hot) cruise, stop for cold drink and and then it won't start. Hit iginition and nothing-no selonoid click-lights bright-horn blows-gauge shows draw when engaging iginition. Girlfriend solictes someone with jumper cables-car starts and I am embrassed. Any suggestions? ABOUT CAR!
Attfay is absolutely right. You need to put a heat shield around your starter. You can also purchase a sleeve to wrap your starter.
This happened to a friend of mine as well. We went for a long ride in his 61 and we stopped for a drink and when we came out, his car would not start. What he did, I would not suggest, he got a cup of water and splashed his starter with it and it started right up. I just feel that that would limit the life of your starter and they are expensive. You can purchase metal heat shields for your starter from Ecklers, Corvette Central etc.
