Default torqe converter question

i need some major help with this problem parts people dont know what way to go on this problem so im going to ask you.

need torqe converter for my car.

heres what im doing:
i have a 1980 corvette with a turbo 350 trany
im putting a 1986 corvette engine in this with no fuel injection engine almost ready to go in but need a torq converter.

flywheel is for a 1986 block with the one-piece rear seal, will a 1980 turbo 350 torq-converter bolt up to this flywheel?

in 1986 the corvettes ran a different trany so i think i have to run the 1980 torq converter so the shaft splines will be the same but not sure

parts people cant tell me so im lost

thankyou very much for the help

Think the only difference is the 861/2 engines are externally balanced, so the flywheels have a weight welded to them. Otherwise they should be interchangable, but I can't swear to it. You might try B+M or TCIs techlines.

If it really is a converter for a 1980, they are both from the 298mm family of converters so, yes, it'll bolt up fine.

Quick and dirty way to tell -

- needs bolts and nuts to mount converter = you have a pre-80 converter, one for a TH350. No lock-up. No go.

- needs just bolts that thread into the "feet" to mount = for a TH350C (has lock-up), so you are golden.

Asuming you have the right unit, make damn sure you use the right bolts. If they are too long, you will end up crying like a little girl and not unjustifiably.

Also look over the old flexplate carefully for cracks, especially where it bolts to the crank.

in 1986 the corvettes ran a different trany so i think i have to run the 1980 torq converter so the shaft splines will be the same but not sure
Yes, you need to run the appropriate converter for the tranny you are running.

ok guys thanks for the help

here is what i ended up doing tell me if you agree (this car did not have torq converter or flywheel or starter)

i ordered a torq converter for a 1980 corvette
i ordered a flywheel for a 1986 engine
i ordered a starter for a 1986 engine (said the hookups are the same as 80)

auto-zone said they will work with me and make sure everything works for me.

the one thing i found out about this change is the 1986 corvette block comes with both the starter bolt mount holes (the diaganal and the streight across holes) this makes it easier to change.

apparently 80 used diaganal bolt holes and 86 used streight across bolt holes since i have to run a 1986 flywheel will use the 1986 starter and streight across bolt holes.

hey guys let me know what you think about this?

thankyou
