Battery Hold Question.
Paul 74, you have a beautiful 74, I saved your 'how To' on the radiator core replacement as I'm sure that I will someday have to do that, but the question I have today is how did you get enough room to tighten the rear battery hold down? Once that 41 pound battery is in place there seems to be no way to keep the bracket in place and get that nut down there.
Thanks, Pete.
I have used an Optima in every car truck or bobcat for the last 15 Years or so with good luck. My car is an 80 so I'm sure it will fit an 82. I have a Delco in my 96 and It died early (due to lots of neglect on my part) and my local Chevrolet Dealer gave me a grate trade in on a new one. Same Story for my Optima, I killed one Dead, ( left the Whipers on for like 3 months) and Costco didn't even ask about it they just gave me a store credit. so I got a new one and they were 10 bucks cheaper so not only did I get a new one I was paid to do it. I see some people prefer a Interstate over an Optima. A Optima is an Interstate. Want to put an Optima in a C4? Can't do it. The extra Top Posts don't Clear the ECU and if You Cut them off You kill the Battery. For a wile my local Autoparts store had generic Optimas for about $40 less. Havn't seen them in a wile. There are lots of Good bateries out there Delco and Optima being some of the better ones.
Pete,
There's a tool for every job. I used a ratchet and an 8" extension. Place the bolt in the socket with a bit of grease to keep it from falling out. It does take a bit of fooling about getting things lined up but after two beers and some choice words the bolt and hold-down bracket got their act together.

Yes, long ext.
There are magnets that fit in sockets.
Ive got the same issue with my '74 short of pulling the seat to get an eye on the mechanizm I havent figured anything out exept reaching back w/ a 8mm wrench, and holding my mouth just right, but its doable
I don't know about the 74 but on the 82 there is a locking devise to keep it up right. If you are involved in a collision it clicks in. Unfortunately it sometime locks in the upright. How to release....I can't remember. I'll try to find the info.
"Globe Union" battery was bought by Interstate. Johnson controls bought Interstate. The same factory makes EVERY battery except Delco, and Exide.
Sears, Pep Boys, NAPA, Autolite, etc. The SAME guts go into different cases.
