Unexperenced, I own a 1979 L-82 my air compressor doesn't kick on. Do not have power at compressor. have power on green wire on two wire connecter at switch/relay jumped two wire connector still no power at compressor plug in. What do i do next.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Probably you are low on refrigerant and the low pressure switch is open to prevent your compressor from engaging. You need to first hook up a gage to see if you have pressure on your system. With the system not operating your static pressure on both the high and low side will be about the same around 100 lbs I think.
You are probably low on freon. There is a low pressure cut out switch on the right side of the engine compartment in the freon line from the compressor close to the evaporator. You can recognize it by looking for an electrical plug with two wires plugged into a fitting on the freonline. Remove the plug, make a jumper wire out of a short piece of number 12 wire. Plug the jumper into each side of the electrical plug. This will bypass your low pressure switch. If the compressor clutch then engages...you are low on freon.
done that nothing happens also when I did that I also checked for power at the compressor two wire connecter no power no juice going to the compressor.
any suggestions will be appreciated.

I jumped the compressor, i had to do it a little different than what you mentioned I have that two wire connecter which runs striaght down to another switch that has a dark green wire that runs to the comp. I took the light green wire and jumped it to the dark green and the comp. clutch engaged. Now i need to find out where is the freon leak.
I think it was suggested that you jump the pressure switch connector NOT the compressor clutch switch connector that is on the compressor. The pressure switch connector is on the high pressure pipe along the fender passenger side. Disconnect it, jump it and if the compressor runs you are probably low on refrigerant.
I have two switches the one you mentioned, pressure switch when i jump that one nothing happens but there is another switch right below that one on a larger line going to I think is the accumilator it has two single connectors a drark green and a blue when I jump the drark green which connects to the comp. switch on the other end with the light green wire of the connector for the pressure switch the comp. engauges.
Does that mean I'm low on freon and if I'm low i must have a leak. Its bought the car a year ago it has not worked sence I got it.

Without going out and looking at my car (it's up on the lift in the garage) it sounds like you are describing the thermal switch. If it has a thermocouple on it and is wrapped with a sticky tar like wrap that is what it is. The sticky tar tape is an insulation for the thermocouple. It prevents freeze up and cuts off the compressor if the evaporator core temp falls below 33*F. You can buy the tape or the switch from a lot of CF vendors.
The first thing I would do if I were you is to put a cheapy pressure guage on the low side port to see if you have any refrigerant in the system. You can buy one at any auto parts store.
try this....the green wire from my low pressure cutout switch to the compressor had an internal break right at the black rubber connecter that holds it onto the switch.....try jumpering the connector and work the wire in hopes of making a connection
