The carpets are in, the top is done and stretching so now it's time to put the interior back together. So far the upper dash pad, sill plates and kick panels are installed.
What order do the right and left dash pads, heater control panel, gauge console, shifter console and parking brake lever console go in?
I try to visualize it as a waterfall, start at the top and work downwards.
Any good tips or tricks to speed up the process are also highly appreciated.
I just had my 77 apart. I didn't have all the center console apaprt, but it would seem to me that would be first- shifter console, park brake, then left dash pad, center, and right. Sort of loose assemble- start the screws as you go and wait to tighten until everything s in place.
Hi 1F,
On my 71 the order I used was...
Dash Top Pad
Shifter Console
Emergency Brake Cover
Driver's Side Pad
Center Gauge Cluster Bezel
Right Side Pad.
The Driver's Side Pad is a little tricky because of the tach and speedo connections.
The Center Gauge Bezel is the most tricky because it a tight fit, many things to hook up, and VERY easy to break the top third off from the bottom.
The Passenger's Side Pad is probably the easiest.
I put the various fasteners in as I go along but DON"T tighten them till everything's in.
It's not too bad a job if you're careful and take your time. Having the AIM in front of you helps a lot.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
Regards,
Alan
Hi 1FM,
The drivers side pad is pretty straight forward.
Instrument lights, turn signal indicators, high-beam indicator, emergency brake indicator.
Tach and speedo cables.
Make sure the blue striped vacuum hose goes on the front nipple of the of headlight switch and check WILCOX'S diagram for the rest of the headlight and wiper vacuum hoses.
Don't pinch anything as you put the dash pad in place. I like to test the lights and wipers at this point. The more you put together the harder things are to get to if either don't work properly.
Don't forget the hood release, the courtesy light, and the Astro Vent duct.
It's all in fun!!!!
Regards,
Alan
Hi KB,
The column was in but dropped from the two bolts right at the bottom of the dash pad. You can let it down but be SURE to support it well so all the weight isn't on the front bolts and bearing. Learned that from Mr. Shea!
Good Luck!

Alan
