1971 Rear axle codes are as follows:

AA 3.55:1
AB 3.70:1
AC 4.11:1
AD 4.56:1
AW 3.08:1
AX 3.36:1
LR 3.36:1

Axle plant codes:

B=Buffalo, D=Dana, E=Eaton, G=Chevrolet Gear &Axle, K=McKinnon Industries, W=Warren Motive

Positraction Sources:

E=Eaton, W=Warren Gear, D=Dana

From the 1970-72 NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide 4th Edition:

"For 1971 and 1972 the stamping began with two letters for the ratio code, a letter for the axle plant, one to three numbers for the julian day of the year, a letter for the Positraction source, and a number for the shift".

Based upon that, I'm not really sure what you have. Maybe you misread some of the characters?

To post a picture open a free account on an internet file server such as Photobucket, upload the picture, then go to the uploaded picture and when you hover over it with your mouse a menu will display underneath it.

Select the IMG line and do a control c to place a copy in the paste buffer then go back to your CF thread, edit your post and select a location in the edit box and do a control v to paste the picture.

You can use right click and copy and right click and paste in place of the control c and control v.

You can get a pretty close idea of the ratio by marking the driveshaft with a chalk line and then put one on the tire then turn the wheel and count the revolutions of each. If it is a 4.11:1 you should see the driveshaft turn a little over 4 times for every tire revolution.

As far as the stamp, if you have the tank sticker it should have a notation on it if the car was ordered with a special differential.

4.11 = 3500 rpm at 70 mph with a 265-60-r15 tire in 4th gear
