Are you interested in finding out if this is the original motor, or simply matching numbers?

You don't need a website. The numbers match. Consecutive unit number for your '69 is 21647; same number is stamped on the engine pad. HZ is a 350/300 with auto trans assembled March 25. Probably original unless you have reason to believe it's a restamp.

The time/build date on your '69 will be early April (IXX) unless she got caught in the strike. Post your time/build code. The strike began 4/10/69. Your car might be very close to that. Let's hope she got out the door before they closed it.

Look at the numbers I Hilited in blue - your numbers match. At least the vin and the engine. There are also numbers hidden on the frame between the body and the frame (drivers side near the rear wheel), on the transmission, and on the rear end. They too should include the 21647 in their serial numbers. To be considered truly numbers matching, you would need to have the correct casting numbers on your block and heads to match the engine described below, and the casting date codes would need to be in a reasonable time frame prior to the engine assembly date. Correct part numbers and date codes should also be found on the water pump (not likely after 40 years), alternator, distributor, and carburetor. Casting and assembly dates also exist for the trans and rear end, with normally longer lead times than the engine assembly date. Order an NCRS judging manual for a 69 Vette and you can learn a vast array of other date coded items, casting numbers etc. for the various parts that make up your car.

The large letters stamped on the trimcode tag on the drivers side door pillar should read Kxx where the xx is probably 02, 03, or 05 - the body build day and K representing June (you will just need to look at the web sites to figure this one out). It will also carry codes specifying the original paint and interior.

From your Vin, the car is a 69 Corvette Coupe assembled in St Louis - 21647th off the assembly line. Probably assembled on the 6th or 7th of June

The engine is 350-cid 300-hp V-8 with 10.0:1 compression ratio, Turbo Hydra-Matic (THM) automatic transmission, and four-barrel carburetor - Engine was built in Flint on March 25th. This is a longer than usual lead time for the engine build, but is consistent with the fact that a work stoppage (probably a strike) halted production for a siginificant portion of April and all of May that year. If my guestimated build dates for your car are off by very much it probably means that the strike ran into June. There are guys on the forum that will know for certain the exact date that production resumed.

Here are a couple of sites on the web with Corvette build codes, specifications, dates, etc.. The guys that created these sites know way more about it than me, yet you may notice that their published results are conflicting in some areas and not always consistent with what you find on your car.

Hi vho69,
The 'numbers matching/date appropriate' game can be pushed pretty far, the list of parts with part numbers and dates is quite long.
Here's a seat track with a Julian date, a birdcage hinge pillar with a date, and a fan clutch, all appropriate for a mid-January 71 built car.
Regards,
Alan

Hi M,
Only the UNIMPORTANT numbers are restamps. Would NEVER do it on anything that matters (or affects the price). That would be dishonest!!!

Alan
