$50 plus a rebuild kit is way better than $350. Whats wrong with the one your uncle has?
Take his apart and look at things like matching rods, jets, bushings on the throttle shaft etc..
A Rochester is a very good carb. All it needs is a little work.
As long as the throttle plate shafts do not have a lot of slop in them (egg-shaped shaft holes provide a path for vacuum leakage), your Uncle's $50 Q-Jet is a steal. And, there are no "gutless" Q-Jets....only carbs that have been neglected and that haven't been overhauled for way too many years. If all the parts are there and the castings aren't damaged, a good rebuild will provide a 750 cfm 4-barrel carb that will be more than most street machines will ever need.
That's a good price for a NOS carb. isnt it?
If you have not rebuilt one before, spending $350 may not be a bad idea. If your uncle's carb is missing a lot of pieces, you will spend a lot of time looking for those pieces.
QJ's came on a lot of different vehicles.
I don't know if you can trace what vehicle that carb was meant for but it may not be properly calibrated for your engine.

Just looked thru Lars papers and I can not find that carb# listed for any Vette, what is the carb # on the side of your carb?
Also NAPA sells new carbs with a warranty and no shipping for about the same price.
The seller claims it will fit many years, just because it fits on the manifold does not mean it has the correct jets and rods for you.
PG.

i have no idea what the numbers are on the carb dont have the carbs with me
That is a 1978 to 1985 Chevy or GMC truck carb. Hot air choke. Can convert to Electric choke. Problem with a NOS carb is it may have been sitting for 30 years and you don't know where or the environment it was stored in. If it has internal corrosion it will require a rebuild at a minimum and possibly some new parts.
The 17066427, I believe, was replacement number made available by GM, though it could be from a motorhome or perhaps a marine application. It is not anything that was installed on a Chevrolet car or truck from the factory. GM factory carb numbers would be 702xxxx, 704xxxx, 1705xxxx, and 1708xxxx, depending on the year.
As 63mako stated, it has the heat riser choke. The throttle arm is for a Chevy 454 (no auto trans kickdown linkage hookup). It looks like the idle fuel mixture screw caps have been removed also.
The seller appears to be a legitimate business, but I would be a little leery of it. Doing a Google search for Rochester 17066427 brings up several listings using those exact pictures
used in the eBay auction.
