Default Solid motor mounts recommendation

Looking to switch from Energy Suspension Poly engine mounts to solid mounts. I want to give the solid mounts a try b/c I am not happy with the way the poly mounts are holding up. They're softer than rubber at this point and I'm not sure if that has to do with the engine or hooker headers heat.
We'll see how much more vibration translates from the block to the car.

Can this hurt the engine block now that it will be serving as a structural member? frame twist tension hurt the block casting? Its a Merlin 509 block.

Any recommendations?
I see Moroso ones on Summit and Jegs and they're .188 thick. $23-$28
Any other recommendations? Its a BBC 509ci (same mounts as 454ci)

Thanks

No they won't hurt your block just use the motor mounts keep the trans mount rubber or poly.

are you really ready for that kind of vibration in the passenger compartment?

Not sure, but gonna give it a try.
I've heard from a few people on here that they had no vibrations with the solids.
I find that hard to beleive, but my poly onese are like mush right now and they're suppose to be durable.
I even have the stock 427 little metal exhaust heatshields that surround the motor mounts.

In the end it may be $25 just to say I tried it and didn't like it.

Not much more if any vibration. My shifter vibrates more with poly than with the solids. Thing I didn't like about solids is the clunk I got changing gears even at low rpm's, went to the polys and no more clunk into a gear

You go with Energy Suspension poly's or Prothane?

Solid motor mounts are not the way to go. Unless you want excessive vibration through the entire drivetrain.
If it ain't broke don't break it.

Thats the point, the poly didn't hold up so I need to replace it.

I installed a solid motor mount on the drivers side of my BB to stop the engine from lifting and hitting the hood. There is no more vibration now then there was with rubber mounts.

Poly they are fine 10k on them with a 600+HP motor. Check that at least I think they are fine and have no reason to believe they are not, I haven't inspected them

Or you could use standard rubber mounts and put a bolt through it. Works well for me.

Rubber is still there to absorb vibration, bolts are there to prevent breakage from over extension!

This is what I did when I installed my 509, but only to the drivers side.

I say go for it. I'm not sure how solid mounts would be with a BBC, but it's been fine with my SBC. Just be sure you run rubber or poly on your tranny mount. Everyone has their own opinion, but the only opinion that really matters is YOURS!

I recommend staying with the stock rubber mounts. When I tried some solid Moroso steel mounts a few years back, the left side mount developed a crack 3/4 inch long after only 1 year!

I have solid mounts on my SBC...no issues and in no way can I tell if the vibration increased. I just know the motor isnt bouncing around due to a broken rubber mount.

Moroso's are the only solid mounts I can find.

Appreciate all the comments guys! I'm going to give the solids a try and will let you guys know if there are any increased vibrations.
I'll inspect the poly's when i pull them out and see if I can figure out the cause for failure. If I don't like the solids I might try the rubber mount with the bolt approach. Thanks!

Hi

The poly mounts are heat sensitive.
A friend tried them on his 65 vintage race car and he was wondering about his shifter dropping down.
He found that the polys melted due to the headers.
Went back to rubber and all is OK.

I would have assumed that poly would hold up better to heat than rubber. I think thats my problem is the hooker header heat, although I don't think I would be the first to have this issue. I even have the stock big block little aluminum heat shield things that came from the factory to protect the mounts.

i broke a stock rubber mount on my 454. the one that broke luckily had the T THAT ACTS AS A SEFETY so you dont damage hood but it still let engine up high enough to let fan break shroug. one that broke looked brand new. was in car when i bought it 2 years ago. i replaced with same but now im scared to get on it from a dead stop. what i found out was same mount is used with the 350 and 454.
