Since your not going for NCRS correct I would use 1/0 size SGT copper cable instead of 4 gauge. Custom Battery Cable in Arizona can sell you the ends but your will need a good crimping tool to do the connections right. http://custombatterycables.com/parts/just_parts.htm
Battery cables are 2 AWG....not 4 AWG. You would do best to buy welding cable as it has many more strands and the cable is much more flexible than standard production wire. The top-post terminals should be available at any auto parts store; I'm pretty sure that NAPA can get them. Most are screw-clamps to attach the cable, but it will be inside the case anyway. Or you could clamp the wire to the terminals, then solder them in and cut off/grind off the screw lugs, if you want.
Thanks for the info.. I have #2AWG marine bat cable in stock here as well - So I'll use that. Looks like I'll have to search the sites mentioned.
I'm kinda surprised no one has run up against this before and therefore having the venfor and part# at thier fingertips. It sucks being a "pioneering" searcher with a dial-up.
As I plug through the list of items from my recent '74 purchase, I noticed that there is a slight pause from when I turn the key until the starter turns. Then the starter turns, slowly at first, then regular speed until it starts.
Looking under the car, I can see where all the insulation has been burned off the positive cable, near the exhaust manifold right before it attaches to the started. Lots of corrosion there as well, though the cable is probably at least 2-3 inches from the manifold.
So I need to replace the positive cable.
My questions are:
Is it probable that the bad cable is the cause of the starter delay
or is it some other problem?
Will welding wire be able to withstand the heat from the exhaust manifold? It looks like the cable is run through the routing islets, but maybe one is missing above the starter.
