Default Decode Engine?

I have owned by '77 for a few years know, and still don't know if I have a 327 or 350...Here's the story. I bought the car a few years ago on e0bay. The guy was not a vette guy, he received the car as payment for some contracting work he did. He told me he thought the car had a 327 in it. I pulled the numbers of the block, and they say that it could be either a 327 or 350. I tried to replace the starter last week and it has offset holes..which come to find out... the only starter to fit the car was one for a 1968 327. How can I tell for sure what engine I have...other than the block numbers, what other numbers can I look for and where are they located?

The casting number and date would be a good start even if there's nothing on the stamp pad.

Is the oil filler cap on the valve cover, or on the end of a tube at the front of the intake manifold?

Default cast code 327 - 1968

hello
The engine block cast code for a 1968 327 is 3914678, and the heads are 3917291 or 3917292.
Good luck.

Default 327/350?

For a quick check your casting # for your 77 should be 3970010.
