Has anyone here tried to strip powder coating. I have an NOS lt-1 intake that someone powdercoated silver. I want to strip it off. Will paint stripper work? I wanted to ask before I try and have a mess. I don't want to blast it because it messes up the texture and the numbers. Thanks a lot.
Depends on which powder is on there. "Aircraft" stripper would probably soften whatever it is, might just make a gooey mess and/or discolor the aluminum. Getting it all out of every nook and cranny might drive one to drink...I would consult a local coater (or the one who did your part) to see what's best.
If it is a 'stock' LT-1 intake, it is aluminum. I wouldn't mix paint stripper with aluminum...it might do some wierd stuff to the surface texture. I would take it to someone with a bead blasting cabinet and have them do it. Make sure you plug all the holes and use duct tape to cover any surfaces you don't want bead blasted or passages you don't want the beads entering. Wet or dry sand-blasting is pretty aggressive compared to bead blasting.
Yes, it is a GM aluminum intake. I may try the stripper in an inconspicuous place. I don't know who coated it. I bought it like this. Thanks for the help.

I use aircraft stripper and hard bristle brush to tight areas. Leave on there long enough and it will bubble up, peel and wash of.
