I have a 406 small block, it's a Gen I not a Gen III like your LS3. It runs extremely hard but is still very steetable. It's pretty easy on gas (20 mpg interstate driving) as long as you stay out of the go pedal. All this is owed to putting the right combination of parts together, attention to detail, and spending the time to tune it properly. Details in my signature.

Nice setup ... sounds pretty close to mine. But I have a GEN III motor
It has 3.07 gears for now. 3.73's are in it's future. No track times. I raced professionally for years and probably won't ever put this one on the track. I tend to get carried away. It is just for fun on the streets.
I haven't put it on a scale but I pulled quite a bit of weight out of it. Used aluminum where I could. 80's were lighter to start with too.

You should add that you have a heater and A/C!
You can stuff a 4 inch stroker in a Gen III and get 408 ci. Most of the NA stroker motors are usually doing about 11.40 11.70 with solid roller cams.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I rolled of the line 2.4 60ft shifted from 1st to 2nd missed 3rd and hit 5th coasted a bit and then finally got it into third and turned 14.1 @ 112mph that's enough for this year.
My buddy who owns an engine shop says I need a autonatic and should turn low 11's to mid 10's and he never sugar coats anything

groovyjay and Glass Act... no times with these motors?
Sorry holley505 I've never sent it down the track. My engine builder said it would be into the 11's with my setup and 4.56.1 gears, but can't say thats true without a track time.
Not a corvette but a previous build. 408 SB, 230 dart pro ones, dart single plane, comp 588 lift solid roller, callis crank, oliver rods, wisco pistons, all packed in a 91 S-10 with all wheel drive from a syclone donor. dynoed at 572 HP (flywheel) went 6.70s 1/8 on sreet tires(nitto 555s)18/9.5 wheels all on motor. could be good for more but sold before tuning it completely in....

You get 20mpg with a 250 degree camshaft, 3500 rpm stall converter, and 406 cubic inches? How do you do that?
Bee Jay
400ci, GMPP Aluminum Block, Scat Crank, Carrilo Rods, JE Pistons (had to have them custom made to fit a stock bore) ARP 180 Heads, Manley Valves, Comp Hyd Roller, Accel Gen 7 FI, Gale Banks Twin Turbo. Yet to Dyno it yet but close. Idles at 800 RPM with 16inchs of vacume, should make 700 with out intercooling.
